PHOENIX — A 6-month-old child has died and four others are left with life-threatening injuries following a two-vehicle wreck in Phoenix on Saturday evening, authorities said.
Phoenix police said the crash, which took place around 9 p.m. near 7th Street and Buckeye Road, overturned a GMC pickup truck with several passengers, killing one infant, Ivory Gerald, and injuring four other passengers.
All passengers in the truck, including Gerald, a 3-year-old girl, and three adults, were taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officers alter learned Gerald did not survive her injuries, according to a press release.
Detectives learned during their investigation that the driver of the other vehicle, a Ford pickup truck, was driving southbound on 7th Street when he neglected to stop for the red traffic light, colliding into the GMC pickup truck that was traveling westbound on Buckeye Road, the release said.
The driver of the Ford truck, a 40-year-old man who has not been identified, remained on scene and officers said “impairment does not appear to be an associated factor in this collision.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
