SR 51 closed at McDowell Road in Phoenix after wreck

PHOENIX – Southbound State Route 51 was temporarily closed at McDowell Road in Phoenix after a wreck Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The closure was announced around 2 p.m.

Lanes started reopening about 30 minutes later, but traffic was backed up past Camelback Road by then.

The Arizona Department of Transportation suggested using alternative routes such as Interstate 17, if possible.
