PHOENIX — Residents in Goodyear have a new transportation option after Bird electric scooters landed in the West Valley city on Tuesday.
People ages 18 and older with a valid driver’s license can rent the scooters from one of four locations, including the Palm Valley Pavilions West and Canyon Trails Marketplace shopping centers.
“We’re excited to welcome Bird to Goodyear and provide a new transportation option for our residents and visitors,” Mayor Georgia Lord said in a press release.
“The scooters are a great addition to connect people to their destinations all across the city and will help create a pedestrian-friendly city.”
Riders can utilize the Bird scooters through the mobile phone application. The electric scooters can reach a maximum speed of 15 mph.
Users are encouraged to wear a helmet and reckless riding could lead to a Class 2 misdemeanor.
In December 2019, the Goodyear city code was updated to allow single-rider shared mobility devices, such as Bird scooters, to operate in the city.
Bird, Inc. is based in Santa Monica, California.
