PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey on Friday announced $5 million in funding to launch a program aimed at helping small businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, wildfires and flooding.
The Small Business and Retention Program will fund up to $10,000 in expenditures for employee hiring, relocation and retention bonuses, according to a press release.
All state businesses must meet eligibility to receive funding, which include ownership and operation in Arizona, establishment before Jan. 1, 2020 and between five and 25 workers employed at the company’s location.
Businesses that have up to 50 employees and have been impacted by severe weather damage, such as flooding or wildfires, are also eligible for the program.
“This program is a win for small businesses across Arizona,” state Rep. Jeff Weninger said.
“Effectively hiring and maintaining employees is crucial for the success of any business, but especially the smaller businesses.”
The new program is the latest component to Ducey’s “Back to Work” plan announced in May, which is designed to fill thousands of available jobs in the state.
“Arizona’s small business community is resilient. From the effects of the pandemic to enduring storms that impact entire communities, small business owners and their employees continue to push forward and thrive,” Ducey said.
“We want to make sure they have the resources needed to grow and serve their customers, and our new Small Business Rehiring and Retention Program will do just that.”
Applications from business owners are currently being accepted by the Arizona Commerce Authority.
