PHOENIX — The City of Phoenix announced on Thursday the resumption of British Airways flights from Phoenix Sky Harbor to London Heathrow Airport will begin on Aug. 31.

The service will take place three times a week, according to a press release.

“This flight will contribute to the growth of our economy, while providing travelers with a nonstop connection to Europe,” Phoenix mayor Kate Gallego said.

British Airways stopped the service for a year and a half due to COVID-19. They are celebrating its 25th year of service to Phoenix Sky Harbor.

“They are an important partner who helps boost our local economy, while also bringing new business to the area,” Phoenix city councilmember Betty Guardado said in the release.

The flights will be operated by Boeing 777-200 planes that seat 272 passengers.

Flights will depart Sky Harbor at 7:15 p.m. and arrive in London at 1:15 p.m. the next day. Return trips depart Heathrow Airport at 2:15 p.m. and return to Phoenix at 5:05 p.m.

“Sky Harbor passengers are lucky to once again have direct access to one of the world’s premier international airlines,” Phoenix city councilmember Sal DiCiccio said. “I look forward to seeing where this partnership will go in the coming years.”
