PHOENIX – An Arizona state trooper was taken to a hospital to be checked out Friday morning after he may have been exposed to a chemical while responding to a freeway wreck, authorities said.
The potential exposure occurred after a passenger vehicle hit a guard rail on the right side of westbound Interstate 10 at 40th Street around 8:30 a.m., the Arizona Department of Public Safety said in an email.
The trooper was treated and released, DPS said. The email did not say what the chemical might be.
DPS said the driver, who was alone in the vehicle and was also taken to a hospital for his injuries, might have had a medical issue and that illegal drugs might be involved. The driver remained hospitalized as of Friday afternoon.
No other information was immediately available.
