Pedestrian struck and killed by car on East Valley freeway

PHOENIX — A person trying to cross an East Valley freeway has died after getting hit by a vehicle Sunday night, authorities said.

The incident happened on the eastbound lanes of Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway near Loop 101 in Tempe around 10:30 p.m., according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The person tried running across all travel lanes when he was struck by a car, DPS said.

The person’s car was located on the westbound lanes of Loop 202, leading authorities to believe he was attempting to get off the highway, according to ABC15.

Authorities have ruled out impairment as a factor in the collision.

No identities or additional information was made available.
