PHOENIX  — A 21-year-old man was arrested for manslaughter on Saturday after he allegedly shot and killed a teen family member, authorities said.

Officers responded to the scene near Campbell and 59th avenues around 3:15 p.m. and found the suspect, 21-year-old Alexis Vidrio, waiting for them, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release on Sunday.

Officers immediately began performing life-saving measures on the teen, 15-year-old Valerie Arreloa, before she was transported to the hospital where she later died, police said.

It was learned during the investigation that Vidrio was handling a firearm and removed the magazine out of the gun, police said.

He then pointed the gun and shot Arreloa, police said.

No additional information was made available at this time.
