Peoria police officer escapes serious injury in head-on collision

PHOENIX – A police officer in Peoria was briefly hospitalized Tuesday morning after a head-on collision with a truck.

The Peoria Police Department said the 6:30 a.m. wreck was in the area of 83rd and Sweetwater avenues. The officer was driving a patrol vehicle when the truck crashed into it.

The officer was evaluated at a hospital and released. The driver of the truck was taken into custody on suspicion of impaired driving. He suffered minor injuries and was treated at a hospital, police said.

The street was closed until 9 a.m.

No other details were immediately available.
