PHOENIX — A 2-year-old girl was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition after drowning in a pool in Phoenix on Saturday, authorities said.

Firefighters arrived at a home near Elliot Road and 48th Street around 7:15 p.m. and found family members performing CPR on the unresponsive child, the Phoenix Fire Department said in a statement.

Fire paramedics took over medical treatment and transported her to a local pediatric hospital, authorities said.

Police said family members stated the child was missing for a couple of minutes.

No additional information was immediately available.
