PHOENIX– Landlords in Chandler can now receive $1,000 incentive for each new property rented to a Housing Choice Voucher as part of the expanded rental opportunities program.

Under the original version of the Increasing Rental Opportunities in Chandler program, eight landlords took advantage of the $400 sign-on incentive from Chandler’s Housing and Redevelopment Division.

The program has additionally been expanded to encompass families participating in the Emergency Housing Voucher and Tenant Based Rental Assistance programs, officials said in a press release Thursday.

Otherwise known as Section 8, the HCV program provides assistance to low-income families looking to find housing.

“Chandler currently has more than 80 families in the HCV, EHV and TBRA programs who are searching for housing,” Amy Jacobson, Housing and Redevelopment manager, said in the release.

“It is becoming increasingly difficult to find low- to moderate-income housing within city limits and we’re hopeful with this enhanced program, more landlords will see the benefits of renting to our qualified families.”

Tenants pay a designated percentage of their monthly income towards rent and utilities and Chandler Housing and Redevelopment pays the remainder.
