PHOENIX — A storm in the West Valley dropped more than two inches of rain on Sunday, resulting in flooded roads and stranded drivers.

More than two-and-a-half inches of rain was recorded in some West Valley cities as a flash flood warning was in effect for the area until 5:15 p.m.

Multiple cars were stuck in flooded waters near 107th Avenue and Union Hills in Sun City from the storm, with fire and police personnel having to pull people out of the vehicles, according to KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Martha Maurer.

Power was also knocked out to a few hundred people in the West Valley due to the storm, according to APS, while more than 1,300 were left without power in Buckeye.

It’s been a wet couple of days for the Valley as most metro-Phoenix cities have received more than two inches of rain over the past three days, according to the Flood Control District of Maricopa County.

Scottsdale picked up more than four inches of rain during the wet weekend.

The rain is a welcome sight as this year’s monsoon in Phoenix is already wetter than the previous two seasons combined, the National Weather Service said Saturday.

Drivers are advised not to cross a flooded wash, even if it doesn’t look deep because a few inches of running water could still pose a serious risk.

ADOT also warns people to not drive around road-closed signs as it is not only a risk but violators could be cited under state law.

People are advised to reduce speed and maintain a safe distance between vehicles during storms, avoid sudden braking that can cause sliding on wet pavement as well as reducing speed by slowly taking your foot off the gas pedal and braking slowly.
