PHOENIX — Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport continued its rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic with the strongest June in its 27-year history.
The East Valley hub saw 151,219 passengers in June, the airport said in a press release.
It was also the first year-over-year increase in passengers since the pandemic’s start in March 2020.
“We are pleased to see the steady return of our valued customers. I know many of them are excited to be taking trips long delayed by the pandemic,” J. Brian O’Neill, airport director, said in the release.
“Gateway Airport, our airlines and airport partners have worked hard to create a safe, convenient and affordable environment and a positive travel experience.”
The airport enjoyed its best year in history in 2019, serving nearly 1.8 million passengers before the pandemic slowed operations in 2020.
Six airlines will fly out of Gateway this fall after low-cost Canadian airline Swoop makes its return in late October.
Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport serves more than 50 cities with nonstop service, according to the official website.
