PHOENIX– A Valley nonprofit’s annual backpack giveaway that aids families in need of school supplies returns Saturday.

HeroZona’s ninth annual Phoenix Tools 4 School event is open to students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

The event will be held for two hours beginning at 7 a.m. at South Mountain Community College, 7050 S. 24th Street.

Students are required to attend in order to receive the supplies and attendees are encouraged to arrive early to ensure getting a backpack.

For more information or to pre-register for the event, visit herozona.org.

HeroZona is a part of a group of organizations that host the event for underserved students to obtain the school supplies they need for the upcoming year.

“Now that in-person learning has returned, we want to make sure that families in underserved communities have everything they need to be successful this upcoming school year,” HeroZona founder Alan Powell said in a press release.

HeroZona held a drive-thru event last year due to COVID-19 and previous years had a carnival as well as workshops hosted by local colleges and universities.

We want to hear from you.
