PHOENIX — A 32-year-old man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly shot and killed a man before taking his car in Phoenix, authorities said.

Marco A. Mendoza was taken into custody around 4 p.m. and booked for murder, armed robbery and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.

The incident occurred Saturday at around 11:30 p.m. near 15th Avenue and Indian School Road.

Officers learned Mendoza approached the vehicle of a 36-year-old man and pointed a gun at the victim, demanding his car.

The man refused and Mendoza shot the victim before taking his car, authorities said.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Evidence gathered from the scene was processed and probable cause was developed for officers to arrest Mendoza, authorities said.

No additional information was made available at this time.
