Phoenix police arrest man accused of fatal shooting during carjacking

PHOENIX — A 32-year-old man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly shot and killed a man before taking his car in Phoenix, authorities said.
Marco A. Mendoza was taken into custody around 4 p.m. and booked for murder, armed robbery and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.
The incident occurred Saturday at around 11:30 p.m. near 15th Avenue and Indian School Road.
Officers learned Mendoza approached the vehicle of a 36-year-old man and pointed a gun at the victim, demanding his car.
The man refused and Mendoza shot the victim before taking his car, authorities said.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Evidence gathered from the scene was processed and probable cause was developed for officers to arrest Mendoza, authorities said.
