Evacuations lifted in Cochise County for Walnut Fire

PHOENIX — Officials lifted evacuations Wednesday from the Walnut Fire in Cochise County.
Communities were placed in “GO” for evacuations at Dragoon Road, East Dragoon Road, North Amerind Road and Triangle T Road at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
The evacuation orders were lifted around 24 hours later.
The Walnut Fire started Sunday in the Texas Canyon area of Cochise County and was measured Tuesday at 6,800 acres with no containment.
The fire started about 7 miles northwest of the community of Dragoon and spread toward Interstate 10 between Willcox and Benson in southeastern Arizona.
I-10 was closed in both directions for several hours in the area of the fire Tuesday afternoon.
The blaze is one of several raging across Arizona.
