PHOENIX — A 53-year-old Ohio hiker was found dead on the Tonto Trail in Grand Canyon National Park on Sunday, authorities said.
Michelle Meder of Hudson, Ohio, was on a multi-day trip Saturday when she became disoriented and later unconscious, National Park Service officials said in a press release.
Meder’s death is believed to be heat-related, according to NPS.
The high temperature on Sunday at Phantom Ranch, near where Meder was hiking, was 115 degrees.
Park rangers urge people to not hike in the inner canyon between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the summer.
NPS and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an investigation.
