PHOENIX – A husband and wife from Arizona died while swimming at a Utah state park reservoir, officials said Sunday.
David McMillan, 72, and his wife, Catherine McMillan, 59, went under the water at the reservoir in Deer Creek State Park, in the southeastern part of the state.
ABC15 reported the couple was from Chandler.
Utah State Parks rangers said in a press release the couple was boating with family. David McMillan and another adult were swimming near their pontoon boat when they began having difficulties keeping their heads above water. Catherine McMillan dived into the water to help the pair.
None of the three was wearing a life jacket, rangers said.
Park officials said a passerby with emergency medical training stopped to help pull the trio out of the water – the McMillans were facedown – and administer first aid.
The couple was taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The third person was expected to make a full recovery, rangers said.
