PHOENIX – Some evacuations were lifted Thursday evening for a wildfire burning in rural southeastern Arizona, even though the blaze grew in size and containment slightly decreased, authorities said Thursday night.

Evacuations were lifted for those east of the fire and north of the Aravaipa/Klondyke Road. Evacuation orders were issued Thursday morning throughout the communities of Klondyke and Aravaipa. The night before, authorities told residents in a portion of Klondyke they should leave.

The Pinnacle Fire has consumed 26,460 acres in Graham County’s Santa Teresa Mountains since igniting on June 10, according to the latest incident command report. That was up from 17,453 acres on Thursday morning. Containment of the blaze went from 15% down to 10%.

Most of the growth has come since Sunday. The flames have been fueled by timber, grass and chaparral in rough terrain.

Around 440 personnel have been assigned to battle the blaze.

The cause of the Pinnacle Fire remains under investigation.
