PHOENIX — Due to term limits, Arizona is in the market for a new attorney general in 2022.

Republican Mark Brnovich has held the position since January 2015 and is running for U.S. Senate in the upcoming election.

Here’s the list of high-profile candidates to become Arizona’s 27th attorney general, which will be updated as necessary:

Andrew Gould, Republican — The former Arizona Supreme Court justice retired from the bench April 1. Two weeks later, Gould filed his statement of interest for attorney general. He served on the state Supreme Court for four years and has spent more than 20 years as a judge and justice.

Kris Mayes, Democrat — Mayes announced her run on June 23. A former journalist and member of the Arizona Corporation Commission, Mayes has worked as a senior sustainability scientist at Arizona State University since 2010.

Tiffany Shedd, Republican — Shedd, a cotton farmer and lawyer in Pinal County, ran for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District in the past two election cycles but has never been elected to office. She filed her statement of interest April 12.

Here are other candidates who have filed a statement of interest with the Secretary of State’s Office for attorney general:

Lacy Cooper (R)

Robert McWhirter (D)

Dawn Grove (R)

Rodney Glassman (R)
