PHOENIX — Stage 2 fire restrictions have been implemented across all state land in Arizona as of Friday, the Department of Forestry and Fire Management said.

The restrictions are due to forecasted warm and dry weather conditions, including potential dry thunderstorms, which increases fire danger, according to a press release.

“We cannot stress enough to the public the critical situation we are faced with,” Fire Management Officer John Truett said in the release.

“Firefighters are already challenged and any ignition starting within this drought-stricken fuel bed combined with our incoming critical fire weather could produce large, fast-moving and very active wildfires. Take personal responsibility, follow fire restrictions, and do your part with prevention efforts.”

Stage 2 fire restrictions prohibit all wood-burning and charcoal fires, including campfires, warming fires and charcoal barbeques, as well as smoking outdoors.

Welding and chainsaw operations are also suspended as part of the upgraded restrictions.

Target shooting and fireworks are prohibited year-round.

According to the department, 848 wildfires have burned 208,190 acres statewide on state, federal and tribal lands to date.

An excessive heat warning was issued for most of next week in Phoenix as temperatures are expected to eclipse 115 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
