PHOENIX — Grand Canyon National Park will implement Stage 2 fire restrictions for the South Rim, North Rim and Inner Canyon beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday.

The restrictions are due to warm and dry weather conditions and increasing fire danger, according to a press release, and encompass the entire park.

This includes all campgrounds, residential areas, backcountry sites and developed recreation sites including Phantom Ranch, Cottonwood Campground, Indian Garden Campground and the Colorado River corridor.

Stage 2 fire restrictions prohibit all wood-burning and charcoal fires, including campfires, warming fires and charcoal barbeques.

The prohibition does not apply to the use of any type of fire to light charcoal for cooking within the Colorado River corridor shoreline, according to the release.

Liquid petroleum or LPG fueled devices that can be turned on and off – such as stoves, lanterns, or heating devices – are also allowed if used in an area that is cleared of all flammable materials.

The restriction also prohibits smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle, and the use of explosives or any incendiary device.

Fireworks are prohibited year-round.

The restrictions will remain in effect until fire danger levels subside, according to the release.

We want to hear from you.
