Multi-vehicle collision at Phoenix intersection kills 3, injures 6
PHOENIX — A multi-vehicle collision Thursday evening at an intersection in Phoenix killed three and injured six others, according to authorities.
The five-car collision occurred just before 4 p.m. at Seventh Avenue and Missouri, forcing a closure of the entire intersection during rush hour.
Phoenix Police Department Sgt. Mercedes Fortune told KTAR News 92.3 FM the area around the intersection would be closed for the evening commute and into the night as authorities investigate the cause of the collision.
Fortune is advising drivers avoid the area and find an alternate route.
The ages of those injured were unknown, Fortune said, but the two people killed on the scene in the collision were both adults.
Seven people were taken to the hospital, including one in extremely critical condition that later died, Sgt. Ann Justus with the Phoenix Police Department said.
A city bus was involved in the collision but nobody on the bus required transport to the hospital, Fortune said.
No additional information was made available at this time.
