PHOENIX — A suspect was arrested in Phoenix after he allegedly fondled himself while watching a student near a sports practice field at Chandler High School, authorities said Tuesday.
Sammy Anthony Blackburn was charged with indecent exposure and third-degree burglary on Friday for the incident, which Chandler police said occurred around 4:30 p.m. on May 17.
The student, a juvenile, saw Blackburn and notified a school employee after the suspect ran in the opposite direction, according to a probable cause statement.
Video from school grounds showed Blackburn entering then leaving the school in a white Toyota Camry with a front license plate that read “I Heart New York” at the time of the incident, police said.
Two days later, a school administrator identified Blackburn at a Salad and Go in Chandler because of the front license plate and contacted authorities, police said.
Following his arrest, police said Blackburn told them he wasn’t initially aware he was at a school and called it a “mistake,” according to the probable cause statement.
Blackburn was booked into Fourth Avenue Jail in Phoenix.
