PHOENIX – Memorial services for Phoenix Police Officer Ginarro New, who died last week after a red-light runner smashed into his patrol vehicle, have been set for Wednesday and Thursday.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hansen Mortuary at 6500 E. Bell Road in Scottsdale, the department announced Tuesday.
A public funeral service is set to begin at 9 a.m. Thursday at Dream City Church at 13613 N. Cave Creek Road in Phoenix.
There won’t be a graveside service or procession. Police honors will take place in the church courtyard after the funeral service.
New was on duty May 31 when a car driven by 31-year-old Christopher Castro sped through the intersection of Greenway Parkway and Cave Creek Road around 10:30 p.m. and slammed into the 27-year-old officer’s Tahoe.
Both men died as a result of the impact.
New, who joined the force in July 2019, is survived by his wife, mother, brother and grandmother.
Authorities said he was the 41st Phoenix Police officer to die while serving.
