Man arrested in fatal hit-and-run of woman sleeping on ground in Phoenix

PHOENIX — A 23-year-old man was arrested Sunday in the fatal hit-and-run of a 47-year-old woman who was sleeping on the ground in Phoenix early Sunday morning, according to authorities.
Isaac Wences Najera was booked for manslaughter and leaving the scene after police found him a short distance away from where the collision happened, near the area of Camelback Road and State Route 51 around 2:45 a.m.
Najera allegedly crossed over the center line across three lanes of traffic, went over a curb and onto the sidewalk before going into a landscape area and running over the woman who was sleeping on the ground.
After hitting the woman, Najera collided with a pole and then fled the area.
The woman, Barbara Ann Brown, was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to authorities.
Najera also displayed signs of impairment and was processed for driving under the influence, with those charges pending testing, according to authorities.
