PHOENIX — The Mescal Fire near Globe has grown to 38,000 acres as evacuation orders for some local residents remained in effect Sunday, according to authorities.
The fire, which started on Tuesday, is 2% contained as it burned actively throughout the day Saturday driven by gusty winds, according to InciWeb.
Evacuation orders were issued Saturday for residents in El Capitan living on the east side of State Route 77 and Soda Canyon.
A temporary shelter has been set up at The Skyline High School in Mesa and Lee Kornegay Elementary School in Miami.
