PHOENIX — A growing number of residents in and around the Gila County town of Miami are under evacuation orders Monday as the Telegraph Fire spreads.

Miami residents south of U.S. 60 from Dairy Canyon to Mackey’s Camp were added to the evacuation list Monday, authorities said in a press release.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office previously issued a similar order for Top-of-the-World and the area west of Miami town limits.

Multiple other area communities are in the SET phase of the emergency notification system, one step below evacuation.

The wildfire has eaten up about 71,000 acres as of Tuesday morning, according to InciWeb.

Miami is about 80 miles east of Phoenix.

More than 190 firefighters have been dispatched to fight the blaze.

The Southwest Area Type 1 Incident Team has also been sent to battle the fire.

The Red Cross opened a shelter at High Desert Middle School, and animal sheltering was available at the Birch Stockyard in Globe.

Four highways remain closed due to brush fires, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Arizona State Route 177 is closed from Superior to Winkelman, SR 77 is closed from Globe to Winkelman, U.S. 70 is closed from Globe to Fort Thomas and U.S. 60 is closed from Superior to Top-of-the-World.

Officials said the fire is burning mostly shrub and grass with low fuel moisture in the area.

The fire was first reported on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
