PHOENIX — Secretary of State Katie Hobbs is promising transparency and accountability regarding Arizona’s most pressing issues if she’s elected the state’s next governor.

“[Arizonans] are tired of this partisan bickering that’s going on that’s holding us back,” Hobbs told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s The Mike Broomhead Show on Wednesday. “They want someone who’s going to get in there, get to work and get the job done.”

Hobbs, a Democrat, announced Wednesday morning that she is running for governor, with her reveal video touting her record as the state’s top elections official.

Hobbs singled out education as an issue that needs attention and collaboration from all involved.

“The bottom line is we need to work in partnership with our parents, our educators and superintendents around the state to bring our education system into the 21st century so that we are meeting the needs of students where they are and that we are not leaving students behind,” Hobbs said.

Immigration and border security, another hot-button topic in the state, is an issue Hobbs vowed to work on with U.S. Sens. from Arizona Mark Kelly and Kyrsten Sinema, also Democrats.

Both Arizona senators have been critical of the Biden administration’s border policies.

“As governor, it is so important when we’re talking about border issues that we are working in partnership with the federal government,” Hobbs said. “We have to fix our broken immigration system and that is not something I can do.

“It is something that’s going to take an act of Congress. And so I’ll continue to work in partnership with our congressional delegation to help get that done in a way that is best for Arizona, for Arizonans.”
