Armed father shot by Phoenix police after children reported him to officers

PHOENIX – A police officer shot an armed man Sunday evening who his children say was violating an order of protection, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Around 5 p.m., police responded to a call near Thunderbird Road and 39th Avenue of a father violating a protection order that was served about two weeks prior.
When the first police officer arrived to the scene, the father, 42, was exiting a screened area near the front door of the residence, while pointing a firearm, authorities said in a press release.
The officer, 26, responded by exchanging gunfire with the father, leaving him in critical but stable condition.

The man will be booked on several charges after he is released from the hospital.
No officers or community members were injured, however, an occupied home in the area was struck by the suspect’s gunfire, authorities said in the release.
During the on-scene investigation, detectives learned the suspect’s car was set on fire and that he had taken another car at gunpoint near 28th Drive and Cactus Road.
He allegedly forced the victim from that robbery to drive him near the eventual scene of the shooting.
The victim was able to drive away uninjured after the man left the car.
The investigation is on-going.
No other information was immediately available.
It was the eighth shooting of the year involving the Phoenix Police Department and 25th overall by law enforcement, according to KTAR News 92.3 FM research.
