PHOENIX — Half of all adults in Arizona have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, the Arizona Department of Health Services said Tuesday night.

Steve Elliott, ADHS communications director, told KTAR News 92.3 FM that at least 50% of people over the age of 18 in the state are fully vaccinated.

The milestone coincides with data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday that reported 50% of adults nationwide are fully vaccinated against the virus.

The Arizona Department of Health Services’ dashboard showed Tuesday morning that 45.4% of the state’s population have received at least one-dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, including those who are under 18.

State-run vaccine sites, as well as distribution points in the various counties, began administering the COVID-19 vaccine by age group and essential occupations in January before opening up to everyone who met the age requirement in March as demand for the vaccine decreased and supply rose.

The minimum age to receive the Pfizer shot was recently approved for kids as young as 12, but it’s still 18 for the other approved versions of Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.

After months with daily case numbers in the thousands, Arizona hasn’t recorded a day with more than 1,000 cases reported since May 1.

For details about statewide COVID-19 vaccine availability, the ADHS website has a vaccine-finder page showing locations and registration information.

For information about metro Phoenix vaccine availability, Maricopa County Public Health has a locator page that lists pharmacies, government-run sites, health clinics and pop-up distribution events.

Appointments may be required depending on the provider, but many, including state-run mass vaccination sites, accept walk-ins.

Spots at the state-run sites can be secured at https://podvaccine.azdhs.gov/ or by calling 844-542-8201. A new batch of appointments for the following week at those locations, which use the Pfizer vaccine, are released every Friday.

We want to hear from you.
