PHOENIX — A 3-year-old boy who was pulled from a Phoenix canal and rushed to the hospital Sunday evening has died, authorities said.

Phoenix police were called to Indian School Road and 51st Avenue around 5:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a small child floating in the canal.

He was pulled out of the water and officers began to administer CPR.

A Phoenix Fire Department crew arrived and took the boy to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said they determined the toddler left a nearby residence and entered the canal. His parents were also searching for the child as well.

No additional information was immediately available.
