Arizona Theatre Company announces schedule for 54th season

PHOENIX — Arizona Theatre Company has announced its schedule for the 54th season after being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“To say that we’re ecstatic to be back creating live, in-person theatre is an understatement,” Kasser Family Artistic Director Sean Daniels said in a press release.
“We can’t wait for the curtain to go up and for audiences to feel the thrill of a world-class play or musical.”
The season, starting in September and running through July of next year, will include six productions in Phoenix and Tucson made up of three plays and three musicals.

New subscriptions go on sale to the public on June 1, with single tickets coming later in the fall. Both subscriptions and single tickets can be purchased online or by email.
Two world premieres will debut with Arizona Theatre Company as part of the season before continuing on to national and world tours, according to the release.
The first is “Justice,” a musical about Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, running from April 9-30, 2022, in Tucson and May 5-22, 2022, in Phoenix.
The second is “how to make an American Son,” a play about the complexities of privilege, citizenship and family that will be performed from June 4-25, 2022, in Tucson and June 30 to July 17, 2022, in Phoenix.
The season gets underway in Tucson on Sept. 25 with the production of “My 80-Year-Old Boyfriend” until Oct. 16 and from Oct. 21 to Nov. 7 in Phoenix.
Other shows include “Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley” (Nov. 6 to Dec. 4 in Tucson and Dec. 9 to Jan. 2, 2022, in Phoenix), “Women in Jeopardy!” (Jan. 15 to Feb. 5 in Tucson and Feb. 10-27 in Phoenix) and “Nina Simone: Four Women” (Feb. 26 to March 19 in Tucson and March 24 to April 10 in Phoenix).
Two previously announced shows, “The Legend of Georgia McBride” and “Pru Payne” will appear in the 2022/2023 season, according to the release.
The theatre will communicate information about safety requirements in the upcoming months as opening night approaches. Ticket holders who are unready to return to the theatre will be able to view all mainstage plays from home with a professionally recorded video of the productions.
The recorded performances will be captured on the show’s respective opening nights with three cameras, according to the release.
