PHOENIX – A woman was killed and a man injured in a fiery two-vehicle crash on a Phoenix street Sunday, authorities said.
Phoenix police said Charissa Coleman, 28, died at a hospital after she was pulled from a burning car near 91st Avenue and Indian School Road, where a speeding luxury car slammed into her Jeep around 9:30 p.m.
The speeding car may have been racing against a third car that fled the scene, police said.
Sgt. Maggie Cox said in an email that witnesses reported seeing an Infiniti and a black Camaro streaking side-by-side westbound on Indian School.
Coleman was turning left onto 91st Avenue when the 34-year-old driver of the Infiniti smashed into her.
The Phoenix Fire Department said a bystander got an unconscious Coleman out of the wreckage and performed CPR on her before first responders arrived.
The Infiniti driver was hospitalized, but his injuries weren’t life threatening.
The area around the intersection was closed for hours for the investigation.
