PHOENIX — It’s that time of the year again as Valley temperatures are expected to hit 100 degrees for the first time in 2021 this weekend.
The high temperature is expected to be 99 degrees on Friday and 100 degrees on Saturday before dipping – slightly – to 96 degrees on Sunday.
Valley residents did get a couple of extra days of relief from triple digits this year as the temperature reached 100 degrees for the first time on April 26 in both 2020 and 2019.
However, the average date for the first 100-degree day of the year is May 2.
Last year was a historic summer for the Valley with multiple records being set – and it wasn’t good records.
Phoenix broke records for the most 95-degree days (172), 100-degree days (145), 105-degree days (102), 110-degree days (53) and 115-degree days (14) in a year with daily heat records being shattered 18 times throughout 2020 and tied another 15 times.
July and August of last year were the hottest months recorded in Phoenix history. The hottest day of the year came on July 30 when the mercury reached 118 degrees.
The heat even went into November with Phoenix reaching 99 degrees on Nov. 5.
Valley temperatures will drop to 91 degrees on Monday and 93 degrees on Tuesday before rising again to 98 degrees on Wednesday.
