PHOENIX — The University of Arizona’s drive-thru vaccination site will move indoors next week as temperatures begin to rise, officials said Monday.
Starting May 3, all vaccinations will take place in the university’s Ina E. Gittings Building, where a sit-down clinic has been operational since January, according to a press release.
The university’s point of dispensing site as of Saturday had administered more than 194,000 doses since opening in January.
For those who wish to be vaccinated, the site is accepting walk-ins daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. However, appointments can still be made ahead of time online.
The indoor-only location joins Gila River Arena in Glendale, Westworld of Scottsdale, Dexcom in Mesa, Arizona State University’s Desert Financial Arena in Tempe, Northern Arizona University Union Fieldhouse in Flagstaff and Yuma’s Civic Center as the state’s indoor inoculation set-ups.
Demand for vaccine appointments at state-run sites have been dipping since eligibility was opened to all adults in late March, with around 60,000 appointments still available for this week as of Monday from the previous week’s Friday drop.
All adults across Arizona are eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccines, with the minimum age at 16 for the Pfizer shot and 18 for other approved versions.
For details about statewide vaccine availability, the ADHS website has a vaccine-finder page showing locations and registration information.
For information about metro Phoenix vaccine availability, Maricopa County Public Health has a locator page that lists pharmacies, government-run sites, health clinics and pop-up distribution events.
The following week’s worth of appointments for mass vaccination sites run by the state, which use Pfizer, are released every Friday at 11 a.m. Appointments can be booked online at https://podvaccine.azdhs.gov/ or by calling 844-542-8201.
Spots can open at any time through any provider because of cancellations and additional deliveries, so vaccine seekers should continue checking any or all of the registration options regularly.
