PHOENIX – One person was critically injured and two others were also hurt in a fire at a Phoenix apartment complex early Wednesday.
Two people managed to escape the first-floor blaze near 51st Avenue and Indian School Road. A woman jumped from the second story to safety on the ground.
Phoenix Fire Department spokesman David Ramirez said crews reached the site shortly after midnight and saw smoke and flames coming from a ground-floor unit.
Once inside, they found the injured man, who was taken to the hospital.
The woman and another man who got out before help arrived were checked but neither wanted to go in the ambulance.
Firefighters were able to keep the burning from spreading to other units.
Cause of the fire in under investigation.
