PHOENIX – Four Arizona-based businesses and one university made Forbes’ 2021 list of the 500 best employers for diversity in the United States.

Tech company Insight was the highest ranking of the Arizona employers, coming in at No. 140 on the fourth annual list, which was published Tuesday.

The University of Arizona was next at No. 206. No. 267 Microchip Technology, No. 459 Magellan Health Services and No. 494 Best Western International rounded out the Grand Canyon State contingent.

UArizona and Microchip were also on Forbes’ 2021 list of the best large employers, which was released in February.

Forbes ranked JLL, a Chicago-based business services and supplies company, as the nation’s best employer for diversity.

UArizona, one of 30 educational institutions on this year’s diversity list, moved up 35 places after being ranked No. 241 in 2020.

“This recognition for a second year in a row means a great deal,” Helena A. Rodrigues, the Tucson school’s vice president and chief human resources officer, said in a press release.

“We actively work toward improved diversity and inclusion, utilizing evidence- and experience-based practices in our guidance and support of the campus community.”

Research firm Statista surveyed 50,000 people working at U.S. entities with at least 1,000 employees, and Forbes used the responses as the basis for the list.

“The final list ranks the 500 employers that not only received the most recommendations, but also boast the most diverse boards and executive ranks and the most proactive diversity and inclusion initiatives,” according to the methodology.
