PHOENIX – Two motorcycle riders speeding on a lonely stretch of road west of Phoenix crashed and died late Sunday, authorities said.
A spokesman for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and emergency medical personnel found the riders shortly before midnight near Jackrabbit Trail and Beloat Road in Buckeye.
The riders were wearing helmets, Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez said in an email Monday. They each collided with a railing as they traveled north on Jackrabbit Trail “at a high rate of speed.”
The agency said a pick-up truck, possibly white, hit one of the bodies as it lay in the road.
A third motorcyclist had also been with the pair, but deputies did not release any other details about the person.
The names of the motorcyclists have not been made public.
The investigation closed the street in both directions between Beloat and Elliot roads for hours.
Anyone with information about the wreck should call MCSO at 602-876-TIPS (8477) or 602-876-1011.
