PHOENIX — A popular trail on Phoenix’s Camelback Mountain was temporarily closed Sunday after bees stung a hiker and a Phoenix firefighter who was on a rescue mission.
Firefighters responded to the Echo Canyon Trail about 10 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a 50-year-old man experiencing a medical condition while hiking the trail.
But the firefighters encountered bees while making their way up the mountain, delaying their rescue operation.
Another hiker in his 40s and a city firefighter sustained multiple bee stings, but both refused to be taken to the hospital.
Authorities said the injured man eventually walked down the mountain with assistance from the rescue team.
He was in stable condition when transported to a hospital to be checked out for the medical condition. His name wasn’t released.
