PHOENIX — The Phoenix Zoo welcomed a new species along with the birth of 14 prairie dog pups this week, the zoo announced.

In addition to newborn pups, another two litters are anticipated in the coming weeks.

The zoo also introduced the spiral-horned antelope native to southern Africa, Nyala, which hasn’t been previously exhibited.

Directly across from the baboon and mandrill habitats, Nyala’s three half-brothers arrived from Disney’s Animal Kingdom on Tuesday.

At only 10 months, the three younger siblings are not sporting their spiraled horned yet.

The Phoenix Zoo hours are currently 9 a.m.-5p.m., with member entry at 8 a.m.
