Memorial for Buckeye fire chief to include West Valley procession

PHOENIX – A procession along West Valley streets and highways will be part of the memorial activities for Buckeye Fire Chief Bob Costello, who died last week.
Costello was 62 when he died Thursday from cardiac arrest due to complications of COVID-19. He’d been the Buckeye Fire and Medical Rescue Department chief since 2008.
Visitation will be held at 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson Funeral Chapel in Goodyear.
Memorial services will commence at 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ’s Church of the Valley in Peoria.
Face masks are required at the funeral home and encouraged at the church.
The memorial services will be livestreamed at the church’s website.
Members of the public wishing to pay tribute to Costello, who is survived by his wife and brother, can also line the streets during his procession to the church.
The procession will start at the funeral home at 926 S. Litchfield Road around 9 a.m. and take the following route:
- Litchfield Road to Interstate 10.
- I-10 west to Loop 303.
- Loop 303 north to Happy Valley Road.
- Head east to the church at 7007 W. Happy Valley Road.
To honor the chief’s legacy, the Buckeye Elks Lodge #2686 has established the Bob Costello Vocational Scholarship to be presented to high school students each year.
