9/11 exhibit with Twin Towers model stops at Phoenix’s Hall of Flame

PHOENIX – The Hall of Flame Firefighting Museum in Phoenix is hosting a traveling exhibit commemorating the World Trade Center 20 years after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The centerpiece is a detailed model of the Twin Towers created by a young Dutch artist.

Daan Van der Steijn was inspired to build the model after watching a TV documentary about the destruction of the iconic Manhattan buildings on Sept. 11, 2001, according to a Facebook post.

Van der Steijn, who started the project when he was 14 and completed it when he was 19, is training to become a firefighter in the Netherlands.

The exhibit is included with regular admission ($12 for adults, $10 for seniors and ages 6-17; $6 for children 3-5, free for kids under 3) to the museum at 6101 E. Van Buren St., across from the Phoenix Zoo.

The Hall of Flame stop is part of a national tour sponsored by Honor365, a Utah-based veteran and first responder support group, that will eventually make its way to New York for the two-decade anniversary of the attacks.

The Phoenix exhibit opened March 27 and will move on after May 2, when an honor walk ceremony will be held as a tribute to those killed on 9/11 and local community heroes.
