PHOENIX – A new airline will begin nonstop service between metro Phoenix and the Los Angeles area starting next month.
Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport said Thursday low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines will begin flying in and out of the Valley to Burbank, California, daily beginning May 3.
One-way fares from the Valley are going for $19 online until June 2, but may not be applicable for Memorial Day weekend.
The Southern California-based air carrier is charging extra for: first checked bag, $10; priority boarding, $10; carry-on that goes into the overhead bin, $35; and for some seats, more legroom. That seating option starts at $18.
Window and aisle seats can be reserved in advance starting at $5.
Avelo Airlines is the first mainline carrier to launch in the United States in 15 years.
Gateway Airport is located near Loop 202 and Sossaman Road.
