PHOENIX — Two solar co-ops have launched to offer residents of Phoenix and Scottsdale information about residential and small business solar energy.

Created by nonprofit Solar United Neighbors, each group will explore the benefits of solar energy and be able to purchase individual solar systems at a competitive group price. Then, the co-ops will select one company to complete the installations for all members who choose to buy it.

West Valley residents will be eligible to join the Phoenix group and East Valley residents will be eligible to join the Scottsdale group, according to a press release.

Both co-ops are free to join and members are not required to purchase solar grids.

An informational webinar for those interested will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m., with a second scheduled for April 21 at 6 p.m. Registration is required and can be submitted online.

“These two co-ops will help more residents of Phoenix and Scottsdale join the growing community of people saving money by harnessing solar power,” Bret Fanshaw, Arizona program director for Solar United Neighbors, said in the release.

“Together, we’re building a movement to transform our electricity system into one that is cleaner, fairer, and shares its benefits more broadly.”

Solar United Neighbors has hosted six solar co-ops in Arizona since 2019. The group estimates around 135 homes and businesses went solar through those co-ops.

We want to hear from you.
