PHOENIX – Arizona public health officials are considering at least two more COVID-19 state-run mass-vaccination sites in metro Phoenix and one up north, they said.

“We’re looking at another couple of indoor sites here in the Valley,” Arizona Health Services Director Dr. Cara Christ said Monday on KTAR 92.3 FM’s Arizona’s Morning News.

Another potential site could be in Coconino County, Christ said.

She was not specific about where other potential sites in the Valley could be located.

The state opened its first indoor vaccination drive-thru site Monday in Mesa, at a medical technology manufacturing distribution warehouse.

Arizona’s other state-run mass vaccination sites are State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Phoenix Municipal Stadium, University of Arizona and Yuma Civic Center.

With the heat turning up, appointments at the State Farm Stadium that parking lot will be moved indoors to nearby Gila River Arena beginning April 23.

The arena is home to the Arizona Coyotes and will dispense shots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on most days.

Schedules will be adjusted when the venue is booked in the evenings.

“On days that there are events, which they’ve already given us, we will just have morning appointments those days and then open back up the next day,” Christ said.

A week’s worth of appointments for the state-run sites are released every Friday at 11 a.m. Appointments can be booked online at https://podvaccine.azdhs.gov or by calling 844-542-8201.

For other Valley availability, the Maricopa County Public Health website has an online vaccine finder that shows pharmacies, government-run sites, health clinics and pop-up distribution events along with links to the applicable registration pages.

Additional spots can open at any time through any provider because of cancellations and additional deliveries, so vaccine seekers should continue checking any or all of the registration options regularly.

Although appointments are required, all adults are eligible at the state-run sites as well as any other vaccine provider in metro Phoenix. The minimum age is 16 for the Pfizer vaccine and 18 for the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson shots.

We want to hear from you.
