PHOENIX — A portion of the Loop 101 in north Phoenix is the only scheduled Valley freeway closure this weekend, the Arizona Department of Transportation announced Thursday.

The eastbound Loop 101 Pima Freeway will be closed between State Route 51 and 56th Street from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for pavement diamond grinding as a widening project continues.

Northbound SR 51 ramps to eastbound Loop 101 – including the HOV ramp – and eastbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Cave Creek Road and Tatum Boulevard will be closed.

The only other scheduled detour Valley drivers will have to look out for this weekend is overnight lane closures in either direction on the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway in areas between Thunderbird Road and Interstate 10 in the West Valley beginning at 8 p.m. on Sunday.

The restrictions – for lane striping – take place each night from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. through Thursday.

ADOT says overnight work on the highway is arranged to limit impacts on travel to the COVID-19 vaccination site at State Farm Stadium. If an off-ramp near the stadium is closed, people are advised to use another nearby exit.
