PHOENIX — The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department is instituting temporary restrictions at city parks during the Easter holiday weekend in order to limit large group gatherings.

Though all city parks and amenities will be open for use, parking lots will be closed Saturday and Sunday. An exception will be made to those with an accessibility parking placard.

Grilling will also be prohibited over the weekend. The restrictions go into effect after parks close on Friday.

The parking lot near Hole in the Rock at Papago Park will be closed, while trails and other amenities in Papago Park will remain open. Parking at all other city trailheads will not be affected, according to the city.

The department said Easter weekend is usually the busiest two days at the city’s outdoor facilities and are using the restrictions to limit having too many large groups amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

While using city recreational amenities, the department recommends wearing a mask, bringing your own hand sanitizer or wipes and staying six feet or more away from others.

We want to hear from you.
