PHOENIX – About 77,000 COVID-19 vaccine appointments at Arizona’s state-run sites were released Friday at 11 a.m.
As of 12:30 p.m., the only spots left were at State Farm Stadium in Glendale and the Yuma Convention Center, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services. Before 2 p.m., Health Director Dr. Cara Christ said all the online appointments were taken and a limited number remained through the call center.
Friday’s openings at the five state-run mass-vaccination sites were for first doses for next week.
State health officials said Friday’s batch consisted of 38,450 appointments at State Farm Stadium, 13,980 at Phoenix Municipal Stadium, 10,200 at Chandler-Gilbert Community College, 8,150 at the University of Arizona and 6,300 at the Yuma Convention Center, which will debut as a state-run site Monday.
Earlier in the week, the age requirement dropped from 55 to as low as 16 for those sites and other metro Phoenix points of dispensing.
Health workers at the state-run sites administer Pfizer vaccines, which require two doses and have been approved for all eligible ages.
The state opens appointments for the following week every Friday at 11 a.m.
Appointments at the state-operated sites can be made online at https://podvaccine.azdhs.gov/ or by calling the 844-542-8201 registration hotline.
For other Valley availability, the Maricopa County Public Health website has a COVID-19 vaccine finder with a map and list of pharmacies, government-run sites, health clinics and pop-up distribution events along with links to the applicable registration pages.
Spots can open at any time through any of the providers because of cancellations and additional vaccine deliveries, so vaccine seekers should continue checking any or all of the registration portals regularly.
More than a quarter of Arizona’s total population has received at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot as of Friday.
