PHOENIX – Golfing ironman Bob Kurtz will be teeing up at TopGolf in Scottsdale on Thursday to raise money for a nonprofit and take a shot at a world record in an unusual way.
Kurtz, 79, has signed up to hit 1,000 golf balls over 12 hours for New Leaf of Phoenix, which helps homeless families and veterans.
Known for completing golf challenges that require endurance or speed, Kurtz is already in the Guinness World Record Book multiple times.
He’s in the books for having played 500 consecutive holes in 39 hours – without rest or sleep; finished 72 holes of gold in three hours and five minutes and recorded one round of golf in 39 minutes, all the while shooting 71.
For this week’s test of will, Kurtz must hit each ball at least 200 yards.
His quest, Driving Fore Families, is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Pledges start at a dime per drive, with a limit of 1,000 drives for $100 up to $1 per drive for $1,000.
Other donation options include world record sponsor at $7,500, game sponsor at $5,000, bay sponsor for $2,500 and ball sponsor for $1,000.
